NEW BRIGHTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Th« first meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council was held on Monday night. Correepondenoe was read from the North Canterbury Charitable Aid office, asking the cooperation of the Council in ascertaining the character and position of applicants for relief, and also asking that the Council would consider the monthly list >f those to whom relief had'been grant<l, and notify the Board in confidence whether the relief granted to applicant* in the borough should be increased or Jccreasod. The Mayor said that this would not be a difficult matter. It was resolved to supply the information. Die Finance Committee reported the dr. balance at bank on general account to be £224 19s lid. The following tenders were received for the supply of road metal, rubble and screenings:—From Mr J. E. Garland, offering to supply screenings at 5& 6d per yard, metal (llm) at 6s 6d per yard, and rubble at is per yard; and from Mr 8. P. Andrews, offering to euppl ymetal and screening* *t 6s 6d per yard, and rubble at 6s per yard, delivered in stacks or on streets. It was decided to nrcept Mr Garland's tender. On the motion of Or. Maeon, it w» decided that the works Committee should make enquiries as to the cost of obtaining the metal being removed by the Electrical Construction Company from thestreete. The following committees were set up:--Works and Sanitation. Crs. Glanville (chairman). Otley, Bellamy and Hawker; Finance, Ore. Lightbody (chairman), Mason, Caygill and Israelson; Lighting and By-laws, Cre. Macfarlane Tohairman), Hawker, Israelson and Mason.
