The luggage, other than hand luggage, of passengers intending to travel Wf. tho Union Company's steamer , Pateona, leaving Lyttelton on Wednesday next, must be forwarded to Port by tho train leaving Christchurch at 4 p.m., so as to ensure the prompt despatch of the steamer, on account of her taking tho supplementary San Francisco mail. Tho drawing of the cricketers' art union will take, place in the room of tho Pioneer Bicycle Club on Wednesday. May 17th. at 8 p.m. The ordinary nutting of tho St. Augustine Ma.sonic Lodge, No. 4, will toko place to-night, at 7.'.H). A lecturo will Ih> given to-night by Mr W. W. Tanner. M.H.U., on "Tho Industrial Conditions of tho Pa.st. ! ' The quarterly im-oting of the Employers' Association will l*> held tonight, at tlu> rooms, CaMwl street, at eight o'clock. A ■musical evening, in connection with tbo Yorkshire Society, \rill be held in the Oddfellows' Hall, St. Asa pit street, to-night. A meeting of ma.sUr retail shopkeepers will 1h» held to-night at Miss Grafton'a rooms, to consider the ipie*tion of the operation of the. Shops and Offices Act.
