THE RUSSIANS FORCED BACK. (Received May Bth, 9.38 p.m.) LONDON, May 8. Russian advices from Fenghuahshien state the Japanese are concentrating their principal forces along_ the Liao outposts, near Palitun and northwards. At Papaotun the Japanese cavalry on the 4th, supported by infantry, took the offensive, and forced the Russians back to Hsiaonchengtzu station. A Russian chasseur detachment fell into an ambush at Ershulipu. ( There were fifteen casualties.
