THE LINWOOD WARD.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir,— Amongst others, I was extremely gratified to see that Mr T. N. Horsley, ex-Mayor of Linwood, was nominated for one of the seats for the Linwood ward of Greater Christchurch City Council. As the election takes place next Wednesday, 26th inst., and the Easter holidays interfere with the likelihood of the candidates addressing the burgesses, I would like, with your kind permission, to say a few words about this gentleman, Having had the privilege of sitting with him on the Linwood Borough Council. On Mr Horsley's taking the chair as Mayor of Linwood, he brought forward the idea of tarring the footpaths. This, I am sorry to say, we councillors rejected, but Mr Horeley brought it forward again, and eaid he would do at his own expense tho footpath in front of the Borough Council Chambers, and prove that it was a good thing. What the councillors were afraid of was that the frost would injure it. But what do we find to-day P By his action the whole of the footpaths in the Linwood ward are now tarred, not only making a great saving, as it used to cost us hundreds of pounds for grit every year, but now the residents are able to walk home in pleasure. I oonsider this enough to ask the electors to vote for Mr Horeley as one of the candidates anyway. In saying all these good things for my friend Mr Horsley, I do not for one moment wish to infer that Councillor Otley has not dono his duty, ior I have also had tho pleasure of sitting with him on the Council, and I have always found him one of the most forward councillors we had, so that the electors cannot go far wrong in voting for these two gentlemen.—Your, etc., «**"- *> JOH?r JAMIESON. (A councillor for seven years on Linwood Borough Council.) Christchurch, April 19th, 1905.
