WEST COAST AXOTEB. (SF2CIAZ, TO "THX PRESS.") GREYMOUTH, February 26. The continued dry weather j* very seriously affecting go.d mining, near.'/ tbe whole of t_e sluicing claims being at a standatilL Water in the Moonlight district, where the Republic. Montgomery's Terrace, end other claims are situated, is lower than it has been for year-. _ne share market for all c.asses of mining is practically non-existent. The few shares that have changed hand* were sold at a ridiculously low figure. Jamieton's Reward, for instance, which i* getting good solid returns, and will probably be declaring a dividend next week, were on offer for ss, while Bisckwater River, which has declared a' sixpenny dividend, and has excellent prospects before it, were unsaleable. In qusrti a little prospecting is still going on on the Paparoas. The Croesua Company have had enough, and havo disposed of their property and battery to the Garden Gully Company, which is about to erect the battery on its own property. Thia company ha* a very largo body of stone in eight. The Blackwatcr River Company's dredge is working an excellent face of wash, and the appearance* indicate a steady run for a considerable time to come. The working expenses of this Company are somewhat heavy, bush-clearing alone co-ting £12 per week. Xotwithstanding this, there is a atrong feeling amongst tbo West Coast shareholders at the action of the Dunedin directors in only declaring a eixpenny dividend last week. According to calculations here, the amount nhould have been at least double. A meetins* of "West Coaet eiharcholdors i* to be held this week to consider what action shall be The B'.ackwater Lagoon Company's dredge cot a start last Wednesday. The Buller Junction Company* dredge was idle during the wholo of tho week repairing. Tho Factolus Company's prospects aro steadily improvinfj, and the wash has a more solid appearance, and. though in places fairly ro-gb, thcro is leg* deft. j. no Nc-tovn Creek Company a dredge has a good face, with very littlo timber showing. The wash in. tho Jamieson's Reward Company's claim continues very variable. The .Green-tone Three Mile Company s wa-h is tight and variable in character. Tho Caflaghan's Creek Company s • dredge is working on tho richer eide of the creek, but no great improvement i» expected. Tho Mokoia Company* wash is more solid with much less Band. The Totai* Flat Company a dredge is working at the front of the terrace, where only a little gold was expected. Past this point is a piece o! flat ground which i» expected to give good return*, and the dredge will bo on it in a fortnight. A little improvement was apparent towards the end of tho week in the North Beach Company* claim. Tho Moonlight Company's wash, continues The New Kohinoor Company** dredge broke a pinion, but is expected to get a start tomorrow. . . i The *Waimih_rt sluicing claim (now privately owned) will bo ready for sluicing operations in about six weeks' time. It is intended to open the face about » mile and a half from -where the old Company made operations. ... Effort- to raise the Boatman's Creek dredge by pnmping had to be abandoned, ac very little headway was being made. The pumps managed to lower the water ebout 4ft, and after that no appreciable difference was noticed. It is now intended to bring in a tail race ebout 10 or IS chains below tho i sunken craft.
