ASHBURTON.

Our Ashburton correspondent writes:— Wheat.—The market is extremely dull. Millers for ■ the most part are short of grain, and are utilising their spare time in cleaning the mills, repairing machinery, etc., rather than finish up the small quantity of old wheat on hand before the arrival of the new season's. As soon aa the new wheat is available we expect good demand from millers for this purpose. Meanwhile prioes are nominally unaltered. Tuscan 8s 4_d, Hunter's 3s 2d to 3s 3d, Velvet 3s 3d. Oats The past has been a busy week amongst those farmers who had oat* available for delivery. The demand for shipment has been keen in order to 'fill space, and the various stores were busily engaged loading on trucks* both out of store and from deliveries by traction engine. Farmers are now busily engaged stacking and threshing, and -the weather has been all that could possibly bo desired, so that we look For a large quantity to be placed on the market during the course of the next week. Prices, which had risen about Id per bushel, have since slack ened off and are again quoted as follows :—Garton's, Roeebory's, and Duns Is 6|d to Is 7d, Danish Is 6Jd to Is 6d. Barley.—There have been a few lines on offer, hut at the present moment the.market is not open sufficiently to frame values; From sales made indications wonld point to 3s 6d to 8s 9d being averaged value. Ryegrass.—After the first rush, offerings have been very poor, and buyers
