At the Athletic Championship Meeting the visitors showed greatly improved form. In the mile race Shrubb led all the way, beating Blake easily by twenty yards in 4min 29_sec. Four Miles Handicap—Shrubb (scr) 1, Blake 180 yds) 2. Won by 200 yds. Time, 20min 43 3-sth sec. 100 yds Handicap—Duffey (scr) 1, Widmer (Sydney, iyd) 2, Mueller (Victoria, lyd) Won by two inohes, Mueller a few*inches away. Time, 10 1-lOthsec. (Received February 26th, 5.3 p.m.) MELBOURNE, February 26. At the Championship Athletic Meeting tho throwing the hammer contest was won by Hurry, of Melbourne (87ft 7in)j the pole vault by Pattison, # of Bendigo (9ft 6in), and the broad jump by Mueller (21ft Jin). Widmer won tho 440 yds Championship in 53.cc.
LONDON February 24. It is unofficially reported. that there are 40,000 strikers at Batoum. Tartars were let loose on the Armenians at Baku. The police did not interfere, pleading absence of instructions. After the conflict three hundred corpses littered the streets. ,It is reported the Black Sea -squadron bombarded the town of Poti, owing to the riots. ST. PETERSBURG, February 24. Four officers, commanding the Russian Guards, who fired tho salute at the blessing of the Neva water-," when the Czar narrowly escaped, were ordered to be oourt-martialled. The strike of engineers compelled the re-opened factories at Warsaw to reclose.
