THE SOUTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT Alreudy bowlors aro boginning to arrivo in this city for the New' Zealand Bowling .. Association's South Island Championship tournament, which opens on Monday. The indications are that there will bo close upon two hundred competitors. Compared with previous tournaments, there will be sorcral innovations. Hitherto, if a player failed ho was unable to play m any. later, rinks; on this occasion every player will jiavo an opportunity of playing at least six games. In the past on*ladies' day it has J - been the practice to have a match usually North versus South; on this occasion the visitors will havo tho plonsure of witnessing the fipals of the various championships. ' This will/undoubtedly, lend greater interest to tho function, which will tako the 20th instant. The tournament will bo played on the Canterbury, Christchurch, and St. Albans Clubs'- greens nnd some games may be played on the Sydenham Club's green. Mr It. T. Wheeler, of Dunedin, the secretary of tho Association, is expected to arrive from the South to-night. _ , By tho first express yesterday the following arrived:—Messrs W. Aflnutt, W. McLaren, E. Sneddon, H. W. Reid, W. Drury, W. McDonald, J. Short, D. McPherson, P. Smith. T. Lock (Gore), and J. Porteous (Invercargill). By the second express last night Messrs J. Hayne, J. Findlay,. A". Steans, J. Johnston. J. Taylor^-W. Howie, and J. Harper arrived from Invercargill, and Messrs O. J. Wilson and T. E. Hanna from Gore. '..'.,.
