CANTERBURY BAND OF HOPE UNION.

Tho Canterbury Band of Hope Union's annual musical and elocutionary contests commenced, last evening in the, Choral Hall, Avhen "there, was a very large attendance. Mr J. T. Smith, president of the Union, was in tho chair. The chairman, stated that there were, more Bands of Hope competing during tho present year than on any former occasion, and representatives from as far os Rangiora were taking paxt in the programme. The programme for tlie evening included dialogue*, recitations, and vocal and piano Milos To-night, when the contest will lie continued, a programme consisting of vocal solos and duets, piano solos, and duets, and model Band of Hope, addresses will' be rendered by adult members of the Union.
