Sub-Inspector Dwyer stated that the prosecutor was receiving 19s change efc the Al Hotel, when the accused snatched away a half sovereign, and made olf. The man was followed, and secured just ac he was changing the coin. The accused explained that he vaa tinder the influence of liquor when he took the money. A sentence of fourteen days* imprisonment was inflicted. THE CYCLISTS , PROCESSION. Foot riding their bicycles along foobpaths, Ernest Watte, Frederick Rossiter, William Chapman, George Odgcxs, John Washington, Edward Barsdalo, and Frederick Uall were each fined 10s. John Edmund Congrevo was fined lGs, *and Ivan Grierson 5s for riding at night without carrying lights. BY-LAW CASES. P. A. Ortraan and Robert King were each fined 10b for driving horses and vehicles across tlie Colombo-Hereford-High street intersection at other tlian a pace. William Gallagban was fined 10s for allowing • a horse to wander at large at Prebbleton Mr Cbwlishaw appeared for tho Linco'n Road Board. William Thomas wae also fined 10b for allowing eight bnul of cattle to wander at large on the Lyttelton road, Sumner. William Cramp admitted a charge of driving a horso and buggy across tlie Colombo street railway crossing when an engine was approaching. The defendant expressed his thankfulness that the accident which had resulted wns no worw than it was. As it was, his wife was injured, and the buggy waa broken. He did not hoar the warning bpll, nor did he see the engine until he wae actually on the crossing.. Sub-Inspec-tor Dwyer said that there had been a collision, and the engine had collided with the defendant's horse and buggy. The occupants might easily havo been killed. A fine of 10s was imposed.
