Information has been receivi>d from the West Coast director of tho Montgomery's Terrace Hydraulic Sluicing Company stating that the repairs to the race- were completed and that sluicing operations had commenced last Monday. A good deal of :excit(-mcnt has been caused in Tancatua and Oouriao by a report that a, payable reef has been found up tho Waimnna Gorge (say« th 6 correspondent of the "Opotiki Herald.") It appears that the men employed by the County Council to widen the road up the gorge came across dome quartz icßders, and some likely-looking specimens were taken into Tanoatua and shown to Messrs Phillips. Peebles, and Fortune, who sent a parcel up to the Thames for testing. Tha result was so satisfactory that these .gentlemen have pegged out a prospecting claim, and intend putting on men to drive into the reef. s .
