The Union Company's steamer Mararoa J returned from Dunedin at 7.30 a.m. yesterday, and sailed again last night for Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, end Auckland. She will tranship passengers, mails, and cargo to tho Manuka, and will then return couth. On arrival at Dunedin she will be laid up for en overhaul, prior to taking up the summer Tunning in tho daily ferry service in conjunction with the Rotomahana. The scow Southern Isle, which hed been lying in the stream since Saturday last, sailed at 8.45 a.m. yesterday for Pelorus Sound. *here she will load another cargo of timber for Lyttclton. The American four-masted barqunuine Addenda was towed out at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, and sailed with a good southerly wind for Newcastle, where she will load a cargo of coal fo* Honolulu or one of the Californian ports. Owinß to the heavy southerly galo which was raging at Wellington on Wednesday, the Rotoraahana was unable to leave that port, and in consequence, her tnp to Lyttelton was cancelled. Sbo will leave Wellington tonight, however, and is due here Rβ usual tomorrow morning. „■;,«"» It is announced that Captain F. J. Colo, who was commander of the- R.M.S. Austrrha when ehe was wrecked at tho entrance of Port Phillip in Juno last, has retired from the service of the Peninsula and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. Reasons for the resignation are not given, but he cannot be blamed for the wreck, as the chip a ofneere were completely exonerated. Captain Cole was held in high estimation by the P. and O. Company, and was the third on its list. During the 40 years he has been m the P. and O. mail steamers he has never till now had any mishap. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company* steamer Rimutaka, which is loading nt tho southern ports, will return to Lytte'.ton on Monday. She will take in a. quantity of cargo hero, and then go on to Wellington, whence she sails finally on the 27th ittsf. The Union Company's steamer Wbangapo will finish the discharge of tho Lytte'.ton portion of her caTgo of coal from Newcastle tomorrow, whon she will sail for Tiraam and Dunedin, at which ports she will put out the balance. The Union Company's steamer Moeraki, ftom Sydney, has been d**«ined at Wellington by bad weather, and will not re«eb Lyttclton until to-morrow morning. She wiil sail the same day for Melbourne, via Dunedin. Bluff, and Hobnrt. The Corinna, from New Plymouth and Wellington, which has also been delayed at the latter port by Iho heavy weather, was to sail iani night for Lyttclton, and she will leave here to-night for Timaru, Oamaru, and DuneCaptain Maxwell, late of the Wh«ngape. went to Dunedin by the Talune yesterday, for instructions.
