AN ALLEGED ASSAULT.
(PHE9S ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, August 3. Tho Cemetery Bridge case, in wftiieh Mrs Annie Jaffrey was knocked down and robbed, waa ventilated at the Police Court to-day, when Harold B. Hatrop wa« charged with the offence. Mrs Jeffrey stated that whm retraining home on the 18th ult., os ehe wae going up the hill towards tiie bridge, ifoe noticed a man coming towards her. The man sprang at her. and catching her by the neck, said: " I've got you, I'll do for you." He then threw her upon the ground, punching her upon the cheek, making it bleed, and meanwhile pinned her down so that she could not ecream. He then robbed her of her purse, and cleared off in the direction of Symond's street. She identified Harrop ns live man who robbed her, and paid she picked him out from among a dozen at the Police Court some daye ago. Other evidence wne given, and \rli«n a*ked to plead, Harrop declared that he was "not guilty," and, reserving hie defence, he was committed for trial.
