ANOTHER BRITISH VICTORY. United Press Association— "Qj Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received July 13th, 6.57 p.m.) BRISBANE, July 13. The Britishers defeated Brisbane by 17 points to 3 points. The weather was fine, but the attendance was small. During live first half tho scoring was flow. The combination on both sides was good. The British passing and scrum work was the feature of tlie game, being to that of their opponents. At half time the scores were: — Britishers 7, Brisbane 3. During the .second half Brisbane was kept, on the defensive, the game resulting as stated above. . WELCOME TO NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. The New South Wales Association football team, wliich is playing a local team to-day, arrived yesterday morning, and was welcomed hy the Mayor at ihe City Council Chambers at noon. His Worship «iid that he hod very great pleasure in complying with the request of tlie Christchurch Association to welcome tlie visitors. Ho had no doubt that tlie local players would do their best to ma_e their May in Christchurch as enjoyable as possible, and would endeavour to hold their own on the football field. Ho did not know whether Association football had been thoroughly acclimatised in New Zealand. Hero ha understood they played a game called Rugby, wluch, he was told, was rapidly filling the hospitals ,-md cemeteries. He did not know whether the Association game was as rough. He hoped the team would Irnve a-very good time. He would propose the toast of '"The Visitors." After the tewst lutd been honoured, Mr F. W. Rohinfoiii tlie manager of the visiting team, in reply, thanked the Mayor for the hearty welcome ho had given them. Ever sinco the team had landed in New Zealand they had been treated with the utmost courtesy and kindness, and they would always remember the hospitality of the New Zealand people. The team w«s a thoroughly representative one, and ho hoped tlwy would do credit to their State, although ho thought that under the present weather conditions all the advantage was with the New Zealand people. The visitors gave three cheers for the Mayor, and the proceedings ended.
