A fortnight before the tragedy Pounceby told a friend they had quarrelled. She could not live without him or elioot both. A private detective deposed that Pounceby last Monday week employed him to ascertain if Walker were married, and his relations with other women. She was very excited. Another witness saw them in the hotel together the night before the shooting. Walker was drunk, and the girl sober. Pounceby asked what she should do if her boy went with other, women. Witness- replied: "Leave him or shoot him." Pounceby said: "I will shoot Walker to-nighti" adding,. "II you look at the papers to-morrow you will see a tragedy." The experts are positive that the note found in the room is in Pounceby's hand-writing. A man named Walker and a woman named Pounceby were found dead, both being shot through the head, in a room in Castkreagh street. The man was holding a revolver in his hand, but a note in the woman's writing indicated that she intended to kill Walker. Telegrams found in the man's pocket were sent by a woman, making an appointment.
