RANGIORA.

There was a fair attendance of householders at Rangiora last night. The Mayor (Mr J. Carmichael) was in the chair. The Committtee reported that the work of the staff had been done satisfactorily during the past year, the reports of mc Inspectors being good. Tlie. attendance had shown a marked improvement. The number of pupils on the roll on March 30th was 371, as against 365 on the same dato last year. The average attendance for last quarter was 336, and if this kept up the »choul would be entitled to another certificated teacher. Since last meeting Mits Chapman had resigned, and her place had been taken by Miss Bh_et. The senior pupil teacher, had passed their examination with credit. .*■ One junior had failed and resigned, and another had been appointed. A good number of the pupils who had passed the sixth standard had taken advantage of the free admission to go to tlie Rangiora High School. The cooking classes had been well attended, andthe Cadet Corps had received their uniforms at a cost of £19. The amounts received for the year were £870 8s 4d for salaries, and for incidentals £89 14s, rent £5 4s, credit balance last year £9 17s 2d; total £104 15* 2d. The expenditure had been £80 15s 2d, which left a credit balance of £24. The meeting decided to a.«k the Minister for Education to remove the age limit, and to allow mc standard of proficiency to be the test in admitting pupils' to the High Schools. Tlie meeting also adopted a motion urging upon the Government the desirability of establishing a superannuation fund for the teachers. Tlie election of the Committee resulted as follows:—Messrs C. W. Bell (chairman), J. Marshall, H. Boyd, R. Ball, W. H. Foster, the Rev. F.. P. Fendail, J. O. Josling, J. Sai-som, and C. I. Jennings.
