ARMENIAN AND MAHOMETAN.
CRIMES IN THE BITLIS* VILAYET. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received April 25th, 11.12 p.m.) LONDON, April 25. The Governor of Bitlis, in Asiatic Turkey, reports that Armenian malefactors attacked and committed horrible --rones on Mahometan men, women and children at Latchjghian, near Mush. Bitlis, in Asiatic Turkey, is the capital of the vilayet and sanyak of Bitlis, is about- nine miles from the western shore of Lake Van. Tlie chief manufactures are cotton clothes celebrated for their bright red dye, and firearms and diver articles. Tobacco is exported from tlie vilayet. It is near this town that the Persians defeated the army of Solyman the Magnificent in 1554. Mush is a town in the vilayet of: Bitlis, and 'there was a massacre of Armenians here by the Kurds and Turks in 1894. Latchighian is one of 213 villages on the plain surrounding Mush. ihe Mahometan population of Mush is -bout 14,000. whilst the Armenian Christians number some 12,000.*
