LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Lyttelton Borough Council met last night. Present—Crs. S. R. Webb (chairman), J. Garrard, 0. Kav, G. C. Smith, J. T. Norton, J. McLt»n,"and W."T. Foster. Leave of absence was.granted to the Mayor (Air W. RadclifTe) and Cw. N. C. vScliumaclier and R. Brown. The Mount Herbert County Council wrote, asking the Council to "join in framing a by-law regulating the speed of motor-cars, bicycles, and traction engines on tlie roads of the county and borough. It was decided to accede to* the request! Tlie Department of Agriculture wrote, stating that it had been decided that when Government inspectors were employed in inspecting meat at public abattoirs ou Sundays aud public Holidays, they should receive 15s for each such occasion. The Council decided to inform the butchers accordingly. An application from St. John's Bible Class for the use of a room at the Colonists' Hall was referred to the Estates Committee, with power to act. Tlie Inspector ropo**fced that he had visited a- number of premises in the outlying parts of the town, aud had fouud them generally fairly clean. Tlie report of the Foreman of Works, dealing with works in hand, was adopted. The Finance Committee stated that the receipts for the last fortnight had been £868 2s 3d, and recommended payment of accounts amounting to £424 0s sd. Tha balances of the various accounts were:—District Fund, credit, £91 2s 3d: Drainage Loan, credit, £554 16s 4d; Abattoir Loan, credit, £126 19s Id ; Gasworks Loan, debit, £39 4s 5d ; temporary loans, debit, £2525. Tlie report was adopted.
