WEST COAST NOTES.

(SPECIAL TO "THE FKESS.") GREYMOUTH, April 25. The sensational rumour circulated about the rich gold struck in the Montezuma Company's claim was much exaggerated. It appears that the tables lobked much better than wha* they really were X as the gold being very light made a big display. The yield is.. however, the recard for the claim. A little further on a good lead claim was worked in the early days, but the grouncr was shallow. It is thought that the present lead being worked is the same one at a lower leC'el If co, some good returns may be expected. The Nelson Creek Company's return is under expectations, but as part of the thue was in timber, a better yield is expected this week, as the dredge is at a place where th« heavy gold would lodge. The wash in front of the Sullivan's Lead Crmpany's dredge is quite as good as that fiom which last week's return was obtained. The Greenstone Junction -Company's dredge is cutting into good-locking wash with a Letter depth. Whe*. an old codger shivers and shakes, An he hears the wild winter winds roar, That ancientmistake he continues to make, And swallows "hot rum" in galore ; some frknd, like an angel of light, Introduce* a sojnee more sure; And sooths his old throttle by bringing a bottle Of Wood*" Gteul P<*pp?rinint Cure." .
