DUNEDIN, April 25At the annual meetings of householders to-night resolutions were passed in favour of the establishment of a teachers' superannuation scheme. In many meetings resoln. tions were passed regarding the inadequate salaries paid to male teaclvers. At Arthur street, where two teachers have left as a consequence of reductions, the resolution was to the effect that the meeting emphatically and earnestly desired to record its conviction that the recent reductions in the salaries of male a__i.tant teachers below the rank of first assistants Mould prove a deadly blow to the efficient staffing of the schools of the colony, and would do more injury than would be counteracted by any or all of other recent education regulations.. Tlie report presented at the annual meeting of Te Aro householders to-night stated Uiat the Girls' High School and Wellington College authorities refused to take scholars who were qualified under the Act of last session for free places, the reason being M*ant of accommodation. The headmaster said Wellington was at a disadvantage compared with other towns in the colony, as it "was now impossible to get scholars into tlie High School or College unless they won scholarships. Itwas resolved to draw tlie attention of the Minister of Education to the matter, asking him to carry out the intentions of the Act. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 25. A meeting of household.-!-- to-night passed a resolution urging the Government to make provision for a teachers' superannuation scheme.
