WATER SUPPLY BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the WaimakaririAshley Water Supply Board was held on Thursday, January 7th, when, there wore present Messrs Dixon (chairman), Ruddenklau, and Frizzell. Mr Recce's resignation wae received, and .iccepted with regret, the Board recording'the loss sustained by his retiring from the Board, and passed a vote of thanks to him for the ability, tact and interest he brought to bear in the affairs of the Board, and the ratepayers of tlie district. An application from Mr Pearson re renting flat at Brown's Rock was received, and it was agreed to allow him half of the fiat at £2 per annum, provided he remove the present fence halfway down, and to the satisfaction of the caretaker. Mr P. H. Johnson interviewed the Board re exemption of part of his land from maintenance rates, owing to no supply of water to parts by race No. 5. The matter was deferred pending a full meeting of the Board. The. secretary was directed to invite Mr Farmer to inspect Cooper's Creek dam with himself and the member of the district, when the water was again sufficiently low. Messrs Cooper Bros, interviewed the. Board re exemption of paddopks from maintenance rates, which were not watered by races. Considering that each section is partly watered by the main race, and that probably the stock in the paddocks in such sections can get access to the race as well as stock from sections ■which are not paying anything towards Brown's Rock, the Board could not see tbeir way to make a, difference in their case to others similarly situated. In reference to Mr Storer's complaint, it wag decided to ask Mr Moderate what valid reasons, if any, he had to cleaning the race along the north side of sections 12757 and 12704. Mr Forbes was granted leave to Ufet water from nice at Oxford for building purposes, subject to usual conditions. In reply to a letter from Mr Smith, Ohoka, tlie Board decided to inquire into the matter of ponds, and that in future they would be allowed to be filled only by pipes of small dimeimons, and that existing ponds would be co regulated. The Board decided to note contents of a letter from Mr F. Wotherepaon re scooping in the Waimakariri riverbed The secretary's report was read and approved. The returning officer was instructed to take steps to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Recce's retirement.
