(Received November 30th, 12.15 0,m.) LONDON, November 29. A tradejjaper, "The Machinery; Market," after investigating tho effects of a retaliatory and preferential tariff, consddeaGreat Britain will gain little, by preference, and will stand to lose much hy'retaliation. The colonies import £3,361,000 of foreign machinery, chiefly American specialities. Possibly trade worth £992,000 might bo diverted to the United Kingdom, whilo tlie retaliatory tariff is likely to reduce the export of British machinery to Europe by 25 per cent. t causing a losa of over £2,000,000.
