The colonies import £3,361,000 of foreign machinery, chiefly American specialities. Possibly trade worth £992,000 might bo diverted to the United Kingdom, whilo tlie retaliatory tariff is likely to reduce the export of British machinery to Europe by 25 per cent. t causing a losa of over £2,000,000.
