Swift, London, arrived in town on Saturday. - " Mr Scott Thompson and Mr J. F. Thornton went South by the expreas on Saturday morning. » Mr Sydney M. Kogherar, of London, and Mr J. F. Thompson, of Auckland, were recent callers at 'Om local office of the Tourist 'Department. Mr G. Laurenson, M.H.R., leaves tomorrow for the Chatham Islands. He will he accompanied by the representatives of the English Fishing Company, which is seeking to do business in New Zealand waters. ---— Mr A. Kaye waa a passenger for Wellington by Saturday night's steamer. . On Friday ab tbe N Baittery camp the member* of tbe depression range finders' squad presented a silver-mounted pipe and a tobacco pouch to Bombardier Pavitt, who is leaving for Dunedin.
Mr and Mrs J. B. Norris left for Springfield on Friday en route.for the West Coast and Nelson.
■Sir W. J. Steward. Lady Steward, 3lr F.*de C. Malet, and Mr L. F. Ayaon (Inspector of Fisheries) were passengers from Wellington by Saturday morning's steamer.
Mr A. Dudley Dobson, City Surveyor, is expected to arrive from his trip to Australia towards the end of the present week. Mr and Mrs Parker, Miss Kincaid, Mrs Hall, Miss Kit-on, Miss M. Moorhouse, Miss Langton, and Miss Moorhouse left for Hanmer on Saturday. Mr A. Beaver, Mr Newman, and Mr Chas. McKav (Dunedin), Mr Pottar (Auckland), Mr W. Thorpe, Mr Nolan, Mr J. Rogers, Mr W. P. Watson, Mr F. G. Brown, Mr Greenliill, Mr H. J. Hill, Mr Norman Clark, Dr. Apetsi, Mr Andrew Gray, and Mr J. Russell Gray are in town. Miss Agnes G. Murphy, a member of the Council of Women journalists, England, a writer attached to the staffs of the "Pall Mall Gazette" and "M.A.P.," and also special London correspondent for the "Australasian,'' and Miss Aimee Moore, a member of the litef&y staff of the "Britiah Australasian," are on a viaib to Rotorua. Miss Murphy's journalistJo career, which ia an interesting one, commenced in Melbourne, which city she left for London about nine years ago. Miss Moore also formerly resided in the Victorian capital. Mr and Mrs T. S. Weston arrived in town yesterday from New Plymouth. iMr F. Busch, of Rangiora, is removing to residence on* his farm at Amberiey, and ia said to be disposing of his farm property. Mr E. G. Kerr, Rev. J. A. Luxford, Me-sra J. A. G. Ruddenklau, and E. W. Relph were paasengers by the southern express on Saturday. Sergeant Bourke, of Sydenham, on leave ten days at- Hanmer Springs, returned to duty yesterday. Colonel and Mrs Pitcher, from England, are at present on a visit to Christchurch. Messrs Morrall, Fletcher, Lake, and Wells, and Mrs Oldham (Wellington) arrived in town yesterday. Mr and. Mrs Bockknd left for Dunedin on Saturday.
Dr. R. W. Anderson, of Sydenham, who haa been acting on a Royal Commission a~ Auckland, returned to town yesterday. ,
