ATHLETICS.
The annual sports meeting of the Public Schools' Athletic Association will be held at Lancaster Park this afternoon. Large entries have been received, both for the athletic events and the physical drill competitions. A keen contest is expected for the athletic shield at present held by the Normal School, while several schools are reported to be making strong efforts to beat the hitherto unbeaten Kaiapoi Company of cadets. Tha Post and Telegraph Athletic Club held a 220 yds Handicap at Lancaster Park yesterday afternoon. This event is the fifth counting points for the aggregate prizes at the close of the season. The result was:—A. Sutton, 40yds, 1; L. N. King, 12yds, 2; L. H. Herdman, 20yds, 3. Time, 23 2-sth sec. Eleven others competed. Messrs R. W. Percy, P. D. Mansell, ond C. A. Chambers were judges, and Mr J. E. Green starter.
