The Department of Industries and Uommerco has received the following cable from the Agent-General, dated London, 25th: — "The wool sales opened with a full attendance of the trade, but competition was only fair. Thirty thousand bales of New Zealand wool were catalogued, mostly as eliped. Compared with the closing rates of the lost series, fine and medium greasy crossbred wool is from £d to jd, and the coarse Id per lb lower. Sliped has fallen to a lesser extent, and merinos are mostly unchanged." At the first local wool sale to-day, 2375 bales were offered. The sales effected show an advance, us compared with the November sales of lid per lb fine crossbreds, lid to ljd medium crossbred, and 2d coarse crossbred. A feature of the sale ia the comparatively high prices paid for inferior wools.
