PIGEON FLYING.
The Christchurch Homing Pigeon Society flew a race on Saturday from Oamaru, a distance of 140 miles. Nine members sent twenty-one birds, which were liberated by the stationmaster at. 11 a.m. The wind was south-west, and the weather was fine. The following is the result:—Mr Brunt's Gascony, 1136 yards per minute, 1; Mr Bull's August, 1122 yards, 2; Mr Patterson's Royalist, 1120 "yards, 5. The otlier starters were:—Mr Holmes's Decimal 1118 yards, Mr Wilson's Reedham 1111 yards, •Mr Close's Sea Lion 1109 yards, 3lr Edmonds's Flashlight 1109 yards, Mr Johnson's Penny-come-quick 1109 yards, and Mr Chambers's Lemco 1106 yards.
The Lyttelton Homing Society on Saturday flew a race from Cape Campbell, a distance of 178 miles air line. Eight lofts sent twenty bird/, which were liberated in a. light north-east wind. Mr W. Deare's Reliance was first, velocity 1070 yds a minute, Mr F. Walklin's Buttercup second, 1066 yds, Mr W. Knowles's Premier Dick, 1063 yds, third.
