THE ENGINEERS' ENCAMPMENT.
No. 1 Company of New Zealand Engineers, mustering 73 strong, under Cuptain Jones and Lieutenants Edingcr, Andrews, and Luttrell, went into camp on Saturday evening tit the wte in the North. Park known as Pilgrims' Point. In camp with the Company are the Rev. W. 8. Bean (chaplain), SergenrtuMajor Boyle, R.N.Z.E., Corporal Mickle, R.N.Z.E.; and FirstClass Sapper Head. Sergeant-Major Ru_*cll, from the School -af Instruction, joined th© corps last evening, and will remain with them for a week only. Th© encampment, which consist* of seventeen tents, a large marquee for the men's mess, and another for the officers' and iion-commis-eioned officers' mew, is expected to last until Deocmber Bth. The day's work in camp begin* at six o'clock m the morning, and is continued an tbe evening from *eVen o'clock *ill t*n. Last evening ceparate reetions wer© i engaged in semaphore and Morse signalling, iiguailing with Bagbio lamps, field geometry, borelng and levelling, and working widi field telegraphic instrument*. Yeeterday the officer of the day was Lieutenant Lnttrel), who was succeeded this morning by Lieutenant 35dlnger. A fine fkg-taff Jut* been presented to th© Corps by Serg«ant-M*jar Boyle, and placed in a commanding position. It is proposed during the encampment to build a redoubt, roak© gun pits and ©ponlement*, and build a bridge across th© Avon.
