SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
The .Selwyn County Council met yesterday, -when there were present—Messrs W! Dunlop (chairman), W. McMillan, J. Wolfe, J. Mcllaffie, and G. Rutherford. The Canterbury Women’s Institute wrote asking the Council’s support in the election of lady members to the Hospital Board and Charitable Aid Board. The letter was received
Mr Rutherford reported that lie had made a visit of inspection to the stables at tho Bealey. Tito buildings were so dilapidated that they did not provide sufficient shelter for horses, ancl there was no provision for drainage, although the stables were closo to the hotel. He would sooner have his own horses outside, under a fence. The Council decided to instruct the lessee to put. the stables into good order, as directed by the lease.
■ The Overseer reported that fair progress was being made with the dredging of the Halswell River. It would be necessary to take same steps to have the various parts of the river cleaned.
The Ashburton County Council wrote offering to supply poisoned grain at cost price. It was decided to reply that the Road Boards in the Selwyn County were poisoning their own grain. Accounts amounting to £2879 9s were passed for payment.
