The Moeraki arrived in the stream from Melbourne, etc., at 6.25 a.m. yesterday, and was berthed about 7.30 a.m. Captain Chatfield is again in command. The Moeraki left for Sydney, via Wellington, at 5.40 p.m. The Monowai, from Sydney, via Wellington, arrived at 9 a.m. yesterday, aud left for Melbourne, etc., at 4.50 p.m. The Huia arrived from Kaipara at 12.15 p.m. yesterday. The Monowai left Sydney at midnight on September 12th, aud arrived at Wellington at 10 p.m. on the 16th, leaving Wellington on the 17th at 7 p.m. She experienced moderate variable winds till Septornber 14th, afterwards strong westerly winds and high seas till arrival at Wellington. Along the coast she had light winds and a moderato sea. The s.s. Dorset is expected at Timaru early nest week. The new steamer Brei Izcl has been chartered to bring a general cargo from Kew York to Australia. She left .Xew York on September 3rd.
The barque Devonport sailed from Port Esperance for Lyttelton on September 3rd. The Dingadee arrived from Oamaru at noon yesterday. The New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the steamer Rimutaka, which left Wellington for London on August 6th. arrived at Plymouth on Wednesday. The Koonya has been delayed in the South, and ahe will bo compelled to miss Ker next trip to Wellington. The Rosamond has been put on to take her place in the meantime. The steamer Somerset, en route from New York to New Zealand with general cargo, arrived at Melbourne on the 10th inst. She comes via Sydney and Auckland, and after discharging at the main New Zealand ports goes on the berth for South Africa on account of the New Zealand and African Steamship Company. There appears to be a falling oil in business a 3 to coal shipments from this side to New Zealand, say 3 an Australian shipping paper. Recently our Cußtoms clearances have disclosed the names of several well-known traders who hitherto havo regularly freighted with coal for the other side, and recently it was stated that the smart little barque Kiver Hunter, now discharging in Rozelle Bay, will prooeed in ballast hence to Kaipara.
The Takapuna passed a lifebuoy on Monday last, about thirty miles south of Manukau Heads, on the run to New Plymouth. It is suggested that the lifebuoy may belong to the missing auxiliary schooner Toroa.
