NEW ZEALAND DAIRY PRODUCE.

- REPORT FROM LONDON. {press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, September 18. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following reports from the Acting-Produce Commissioner, dated London. August 14th:—There is little to add fa the present slack season as regards the colony's dairy produce to tho main features given in our weekly cables.

New Zealand butter continues in steady though moderate, demand, and has improved its position during the past week or two, to the extent of 2s or 3s per cwt. Choicest may now be quoted at 965, with a few fancy brands somewhat higher. Anything at all secondary, however, is neglected, buyers considering best Siberian at 85s better value.

. Cheese generally seems to have reached bedrock, and an improved demand for New Zealand last week resulted in a hardening of values for that description. There was very fair enquiry for the Papanui's shipment, to arrive, at prices running from 50s to 54s for white and 48s to 50s for coloured. It lis, therefore, all the more regrettable that the shipment should have been put out of the top market by damage. The Kumara's shipment of cheese is taken to be the last of the old season from New Zealand, but apparently we shall get stored butter right up to the new season, for the Rinutaka sailed on the 6th inst. with 390 tons.

The Russians are putting boats ?nto their butter transport service, which come up the river to London Bridge and discharge direct into Cotton's wharf. Tooley sireet. Compared with the harming of colonial butter to the same destination, this means a saving of one clear handling and a'n avoidance of considerable exposure.
