CYCLING.
A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Athletic and Cycling dub was held last evening. Present—Messrs I. Montagu {chairman), A. Donohue, J. Find'iey, J. Kennedy, and R. C. Weils. It was decided to give members in arrears with subscriptions a final notice, after which a .summons will 1« issued to recover. The Chairman congratulated the shooting class on winning tho Morris tube championship, and a special vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Wells, who had managed tho team. It was decided to arrange a shootingmatch with iha Sydenham Working Men's Club for Wednesday next, and to entertain tho teams afterwards. The following members wore appointed to the committee:—Messrs W. Watts, J. Walker, W. Wansborough, J. E. Schneider, and C. Francis. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr R. W. Barry (secretary). Fifteen new members were elected. LEAGUE OF WHEELMEN.
A meeting of the Council of the League of New Zealand Wheelmen was held last evening. Present—'Messrs E. Nordon (chairman), A. C. Duff, T. Clarkson, 11. E. Curtis, J. S. Wearne, and A. Dickson. The annua.! report stated that in the South Island numerous meetings had been held, usually with successful results. In Christchurch receipts from cycle gatherings at Lancaster Park had been much greater than ever before. The racing had been good, though it had been found at times very difficult to control the worst features of team work. Neither sports promoters nor riders had favoured amateurism. Iu the North Island strong efforts had been made to reorganise the sport. It was hoped that Walker would tour tiic colony during the coming season. The League and the Australian Federal Council would reciprocate in recognising each other's riders. According to the balance-sheet the receipts for tho year amounted to £133 19s 6d, and the expenditure to £7O 5* 3d, having a credit- balance of £63 J&s in\. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The Foxtoti Athletic Club was affiliated, and the Secretary repotted that. a. new club hnd beeu formed at Gisbome, which had decided to affiliate with tho League. The Foxton Club's programme for November 9th was passed. W. Clarkson wrote with reference to the condition of the sport in tho 'Manawatu district that the prospects for the coming season were particularly good. Tho order paper of the New Zealand Caledonian Associated Societies was brought forward, and Messrs Clarkson and Nordon were appointed represent the League at the Conference. The Secretary handed in his resignation, stating that pri-vate-business prevented his continuing to fill the position. The. Council unanimously decided to place on record its high apprecation of Mr Kesteven's valuable services to the League, and the sport- of cycle racing in tiie colony during a lengthy period. A sub-committee was appointed to arrange for a November circuit, in the North. Island, and it was decided to form a centre, with Palmerston North as headquarters.
