MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
At, the Magistrate's Court yesterday, the Bench was occupied by Messrs VV. Prudhoe and E. O'Connor, J.l'.'s. DRUNKENNESS. Daniel Hegarty. deemed to be an habitual drunkard, admitted a further charge of drunkenness, and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. One first offender, a female, was fined 5s and costs, or in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. VAGRANCY. Charles Watson, alias Riley, a mere lad. pleaded guilty to a charge of vagrancy. Detective Ward gave evidence that ho knew accused to be a convicted thief, and to bo a lazy vagabond, who spent his time in the vicinity of hotel bars. Witness had kept, accused under observation, and saw him accosj, passers-by and ask them for money. Watson was then arrested. Detective O'Connell and Constable Ward also deposed to accused's idle and vagrant mode of life, and a sentence of three months' imprisonment was inflicted. BY-LAW BREAKERS. Sydney Smith, who admitted having ridden his bicycle on the footpath at Sea View road, New Brighton, was fined 5s and costs. Claude Champion, Godfrey Beaumelbcrg, George Robinson, and Edward Dyer were each fined 10s and costs for having ridden their bicycles after sunset without lighted lamps. Ebenezer Buchanan, for having allowed two horses to wander at large in New Brighton, Mas fined 10s and cosits. ALLEGED INDBOENT ASSAULTS.
Frederick lHihgrrorth, aged forty-three, was charged with indecently assaulting a young woman, having entered her room at night while she was asleep. Mr Beattio appeared for the accused. After the case for the prosecution the Bench committed accused for trial, the defence being reserved. Bail was allowed in accused's own recognisunco of £SO, and two sureties of £25 each.
Cecil Aubrey Green, a boy aged fifteen years, was charged with indecent assault at St. Albans, the victim being a child not yet ten years of age. Mr Donnelly conducted the defence, Chief Detective Ohrystall prosecuting. After hearing a quantity of evidence, the Bench dismayed the case. ALLEGED BREAKING AND ENTERING.
George 'Hunt, upon a cliarge of breaking and entering at Sydenham, was remanded till Friday.
