(Received September 15th, 10.29 p.m.) LONDON, September 15. Cabinet spent three hours discussing the fiscal question. The “Standard” says it is understood the Government will, adhere to the determination to attempt no innovation in policy until after appealing to the* country. The action of Alinisters meanwhile is limited to discussions and inquiry. The proposal to establish preference within the Empire will be indefinitely postponed, and will form no part of the Government’s collective policy. The Government, however, is prepared to claim the right of retaliating upon foreign countries whose tariffs are aimed at destroying or hampering British commerce. The “Standard” adds that this policy is not acceptable to several members of Cabinet.
