CASUALTIES.
An inauest was held at the Morgue yesterday, before the District Coroner, into the circumstances attending the death of Mrs Mary Lister, who was found dead in her bed," at her residence, York street, Opawa, on Wednesday. Evidence was given by the hu-band and daughter of the deceased, and also their servant. Dr. Symes. in lus evidence, gave the result of the pdst mortem examination, which showed that he had found signs of long-standing heart- and hmg troubles. A verdict that death was caused by heart disease was returned. Arthur Foster, a carpenter employed at the Timaru Abattoirs, who fell from a scaffolding tliere on Saturday last, and who had since Ix-en in the hospital, died from tiie injuries he received yesterday morning. Deceased was a son of the late Rev. George Foste-r.
(rRESS ASSOCIATION* TELEGRAMS.) INYERCARGELL, July 31. An inquest was opened to-day on the body of the infant of a single woman living'in the country. The child wius born during the night, no one being in attendance, alihou_.ii her parents were in the house, and tiie body was found in a box near the mother's lx-d. The child had breathed, and the medical evidence was i'oat there wero marks on the throat which might liave been caused by pressure with hands, also abrasions on the shoulder and arm. Tiie doctors were not prepared to say whether or not the injuries were caused "liaturdjly or with intent. Tiie inquest wa6 udjour.'led for a month to secure the mother's attendance. WOODVILLE. July 51. At a football match between Woodville and Tahoraite, played in Woodville. William Leeks had his collarbone fractured, and Burnett had a rib broken. William Schroder, a shunter at the Christchurch Railway Station, aged 52 years, was jumping off a truck at the station yard yesterday ofternoon, when he broke his leg in two places. He was removed to the Hospital.
