EXTRAORDINARY ALLEGATIONS.

A TRAVESTY OF MERCY.

United Press Association—By Elect..o Te!«- o T_p_—-Copyright. (Received July 31st, 12.46 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 30. A startling assertion is made in a pamphlet issued by attendant-' a-nd nurses at Victorian asylums, that at two of the big mrtitntions near Melbourne certain patients are being drugged instead of being placed under physical restraint. The drugs alleged to be used are chloral, bromide, and sulphonal. The Press has been fully supplied with statement- by medical men and discharged patients to the effect that these inmates are treated in a manner which amounts to a frightful travesty of mercy.
