PAY ON THE CHEVIOT RAILWAY.

TO THE KDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—ln '"The Press" of the 17th inst. are statements re the pay on the WaiparaClieviot railway works, which I can say were correct, as I was one of the men. How is it a man can earn 7s per day working for a contractor, who has to make his living at it, and cannot earn half as much on the co-operative business? How is it possible to keep a wife and family on starvation wages? I would very much like to know who is making the money, as I am sure it is not the man who does the hard work.—Yours, etc., STARVED OUT.
