CYCLING.

LEAGUE OF WHEELMEN

The. Council of the League of New Zealand Wheelmen met. at the Hereford Hotel last night, Mr A. C. Duff presiding.

Tho lion, secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association wrote stating that the Association were not in favour of cash and amateur competitors racing together in motor races.

In reply to a circular issued by the Council, the Axemen's Association of Invercargill wrote stating that its cycle events were always held under League rules, and the President of the Associated Caledonian Societies, Mr It. D. D. McLean, st_ted that the subject of the circular would come up for consideration at the annual nweting of the Association, and would also be considered by the Hawke's Bay Highland Society, which held annual sports.

A discussion took place upon the question of enforcing strictly the rule requiring amateur winners to produce their trophies one month after notice, and it was decided to enforce the rule locally, and to writ* to the Auckland Centre stating what was being done in North Canterbury, and suggesting that the Auckland winners should produce their trophies to the seeretarv of the Auckland Centre.

Mr Wearne raised the question «s to whether the League could interest themselves in the direction "of securing the construction of cycle tracks for the use of cyclists at large. It was decided, on Mr Wearne's motion to write to Mr Fowlds, M.H.U., asking him to re-intrtoduce his Cycle Bill. Mr T. Clarkson said he considered that the fines upon the footpath riding cyclists should Iw devoted to the construction of cycle tracks. Mr Wearne suggested that a "mass meeting of cyclists should be held to discu.ss the matter.

Accounts to the amount *of £11 10s 8d were passed for the payment, and the meeting closed.
