VISIT OF INSPECTION". The fflvnibew of tfle Cbrietehtircli Hospital Board viwteJ tho Bottle Lake Hospdtai yesterday afternoon, for the purpose of inspecting" the permanent hospital now being erected" on the reserve, and of settling the nit? for the medical officers tent-. Tho members of the Board who took part in th© visit weie Jacques (chairman), Payling, Loaghnjui, Dunlop, Winny, and Hamilton, and Mr W. M. Miller (secretary). Mr Collins, of Mewrs O>liins and Hannnn (architects to the Board), end the junior house surgeon atso formed members of tho party. The hospital, which is now m tho course of erection, is a one-storeyed structure running from east to .-vnest. and facing north. It lias been placed at a considerable elevation above the general level of the reserve, and the site had t» bo built up by tl>2 contractors before the foundations were laid. The external walls of the hospital nre of corrugated iron of the best, quality, while inside the wails are composed of heavy fflt disinfectant paper covered with match lining, which in turn will bo coated with a special paint, preparation. The men's ward, 26ft by 18tt, is placed at the eastern extremity of the buiWing, a«d to it are annexed "th: usual sanitary conveniences aiitl a bathroom Tho next ward, to the wo*tv/ard, is tho women's ward, which is of the same, dimensions a-s the men's . ward, ajid contains tho. same conveniences. A nurse's room and ;t pantry open out of this ward to the rear. Adjoining tihe women's ward are two dining-rooms, each 18ft by 12tt, which axe separated by sliding doors, and which therefore can be thrown into one. largo room should occasion so require. Tho kitchen lifts at the eastern end of ilia hospkal, and Ls 18ft long by 16ft broad. A larder, «v storeroom, and «i linen closet open off the kitchen. Between the kitchen and tho dining-room the. main passage, is placed leading to the front, entrance, and the nurses' bathroonvie also pHaoed in this* part of the building. Along the entire front there is a promenade eight feet wide, which haa yet to l>2 asphalted. At the back of the-"hospital ore placed iho tanks and a washhouse fitted up with all modern convenience?. Adjoining the washhouse there is a disinfecting room, a changing room, and a Bathroom.
The hospital is admirably sheltered by a thick belt of pines, and when completed will be ji very d«sirni>!e place for the treatment of infectious disease cases. The coat of .the buildir.g wiU be £1350. The cost of the tents previously in use was £1500. Tlie contractor*", Messrs Bowen and Palmer, expect to finieh the structure by the end of next week.
