FENCING OFF SPION KOP.
A ehort time since, writes the Pretoria ■oorreepondent of tho "Otago Daily Times," I beard from Mr Leonard C. Tennent (son oi the manager of the Bank of New South Wales, Timaru), who first came to the country as a" member of the Fourth Contingent, nnd, going back to New Zealand, volunteered and came back with the Eighth. Mr Terim-nt some months ago established himself in an accommodation house on Spion Kop, distant twenty miles from JUulvsniith. When Mr land Mrs Chamberlain were visiting the Natal battlefields, the New Zealander had the distinction of guiding them over , the historic hill on which so much uangninary fighting took place. Spion Kop is now being fenced off by tke owner. Difficulties will then be placed in tie way of tourists inspecting the ground , , and Mr Tennent is not disposed to stay wih*re he is much longer, and Jβ endeavouring to dispose of Ins interest in the accommodation house business. '
