WHY MEN DO NOT GO TO CHURCH.

Sir, —There have been many letters in your paper lately on the subject, "Why do men not go to church?" and many reaK«ns have been given; but surely not one htm so wandered from the point as that in this morning's (Saturday>) paper signed "More Like the Truth." Does the writer think that women have so little work to occupy their time aud minds during the •week that they have no much to cevote to talking over the topics of the day and other pastimes? If mi, he is mistaken. 1 think someone was right in suggesting that the practical experience of our daily life is so at variance with the teaching we receive in church, jliat we find it difficult to reconcile the two, and that that is the reason so many stay away. But is not life often as hard for the women as the men? I will not say much on the subject. I suppose it is pretty well played out by now. Indeed, the letter of '"More Like the Truth" was so little to the point, it seemed that he had only taken the opportunity—and a poor one, too, judging from hi* effusion—for the express purpose of giving a "nasty knock to the opposite (sex. Perhaps he is right concerning some—his own associates, maybe—but his lett.er did not mv much for his own intellect, po what can be expected from his lady fri«nd-«? His attack was as unjustified, in many cases, as it was unmaniy and poor-spirited, and CL-rtainly does not give a coherent reason for mc-n not going to church.—l am, etc.. CHAMPION.
