DIOCESAN STANDING COMMITTEE.
At. a meeting of the Standing Committee, the Bishop informed the Committee that representatives from the various Maori pahs in tlie diocese had met himself and Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., at Christ's College, when tho proposed re-organisation of the Maori Mission under the parochial vicars had been explained to them, and that even the representatives from St. Stephen's, Woodend, who were at first opposed to it, had at length acquiesced in it. He had since learned, however, that their dissatisfaction with the proposal had .revived. It was agreed that Archdeacon Scott, Canou Averill, and Mr S. S- Blackburne should confer with tlie chaplain and the St. Stephen's Church members, with a view to the removal of their objections -The nomination of the Rev. Moore Richard NeJigan, M.A., as Bishop of the See of Auckland, submitted under the canons of the General Synod by the Acting-Primate, was unanimously con-' firmed by the three orders of the Standing Committee. A grunt from the lnvulidrd Clergy Duties Fund of £B,Bs was made to the Vicar of West Lyttelton for the discharge of his duties during a short rest. A irtiport from the Wub-Comuiit'tee on temperance work was read, and received. Plans for additions to St, John's, Woolston, referred back to tlie Standing Committee by the Church Property Trustees, were considered, together with an application for a loon of £120, in order that, with the aid of local contributions, the proposed additions might be carried out. A motion that the loan be granted having been negatived*, it was agreed that a deputation consisting of the Archdeacon of Chrietchurch and Mr W. H. Hargreaves should confer with the vicar and Church officers on the subject. The Very Rev. the Dean of Christchurch and Mr C. E. Bevan-Brown were appointed as delegates to the proposed committee meeting in" Wellington for the selection or compilation of a Scripture text book for use in State schools; the Rev. J. Campbell being appointed as on additional delegate in the event of either of the two being unable to attend. A grant for removal expenses to Waikari was made to the Rev. J. A. Julius. The Rev. H. B. East wrote inquiring whether the Standing Committee would favour a proposal for the sale of the Leithfield vicarage with a- vieV to the purchase or erection of a vicarage in a more central part of the district. It was resolved to Teply that a definite proposal in this direction would be considered on its merits if submitted. A form of declaration, to be made by parishes and districts applying for loans was considered and approved; The cure of Woolstdn was constituted a separate .parochial district, with boundaries to- be determined upon' at t*e next meeting of the Sbinding Committee. Letters from the Rev. J. H. Rogers (Sheffield) and Rev. A. D. Mitchell (Pembroke) were read and received, and the Committee adjourned until May 12th;
