MEETINGS, ENTERTAINMENTS, &c.

A sale of work held in St. John's schoolroom yesterday, in aid of the church debt, was well attended, both in the morning and afternoon, and good business was done on both occasions. In tho evening a musical programme was given. The stallholders were:—Work stall, Mesdamea T. Kinoaid, Proctor, Holmes; bran tub, Misses Bessie Proctor and Restall (2); fruit stall, Moss Parsons, Master Willie Wauchop; jumble stall, Misses Atkinson and Scott; afternoon tea atoll, Mesdames Hawkins, A. Kincaid, Green, and M-» Westenra. «Mr N. Dannefaerd, Director of the Soldiers' Mission, Poena, gave an interesting lecture on his work amongst the soldiers of India on th© Trinity schoolroom yesterday evening, when the Rev. Hird presided. The lecture was illustrated by some fine limelight views shown by Mr Wilkinson. Txwught Mr Dannefaerd will give on address at St. Paul's at 7.30. The annual general meeting of the Estudiantina Band was held last sight. Reference .was mode to 'the success of tbe band during the past season, during which the band had assisted at thirteen performances. The standard of music played showed a marked improvement over previous years, mainly due to the painstaking efforts of the conductor, Mr Post. The membership of the band is now twentytwo performers. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Chairman, A. Noali; conductor, A. R. Post; secretary and treasurer, F. Sinclair; comnvrtAee, W. Barnett, G. Cameron, and W. Robinson; auditor, G. Cameron.
