AMUSEMENTS.

THEATRE ROYAL. "Work and Wages"—the piec-j staged by the Fitzmaurice Gill Company at the Theatre Royal last night—abounds in sensational incidents. As the title implies, the drama deals with the problem of capital and labour, and introduces some scenes descriptive of a strike among the men engaged at an iron works. Prominent among the situations is an effective entry by enraged strikers into the dwelling of the master of the works while a ball is in progress, which was represented in such a realistic manner last night as to meet with the hearty applause of the fairly large audience present. While many of the scenes are distinctly startling, there is a strong vein of humour running through tlie piece, which relieves its heaviness, and is provocative of much laughter. Miss Fitzmaurice Gill, as the heroine, fully sustained the reputation she has achieved, and, with Mr Blake, shared the honours of the evening. Mr Leo de Chateau and Miss Madge Roberts provided the fun, and were frequently applauded by the audience. Some of tlie other characters were also well filled, and the staging was effective- To-night the Company appear in "Dr. Bill," to-morrow night "Nancy and Her Sailor" will be staged, and on Friday night, in response to numerous requests, the Company will appear in "East Lynne."
