United Press Association—By Elc.trio Telegraph—Copyright.. LONDON, March 31. The New York rom-sponde-r.- of "The Times*' reports that the labour situation is grave, and that strikes are daily threatened in even- part. He states that the chief cause is the employment of non-union men and boys. The London "Spectator"' of Febroary 14th. to hand last night, says:—"Plenty of signs have- been .inpaivnt during the past we*k tli.tt trouble is brewing in tho United States lietwcen Capital and Labour. .... The New York correspondent of the 'Times' states that lie- has recently had oppoituuities of learning the view-, of a number of well-known employers of labour regarding the industrial situation, and lias found nervousness to be general. 'A new it*.-—, in the morn lug's papers,' he. c.dds, 'provides a good instance of the. growing power of the labour unions. The mvt.r of one of the largest businesses in Waterbury, whose wife hael committed- the heinous offence of riding on a street car while the recent strike was in progress, has been compelled to sell his cfUiblis'iment at great I>>-. i-o effective wa-. the boycott ajainst him.' The fears of a crisis entertained by the capitalists aro probably exaggerated, but ever since the. coal strike there, has, no doubt, been- a considerable ferment among the working men, and stay serious, even though o-ly temporary, depression in trade might very likely produce a difficult situation."
