FIRES.
(r-RESS ASSOCIATION* TELEGRAMS.) FEILDING, March 18. Demon's store and dwelling at Cheltenham were totally des_royed by fire last night. Tho insurance on the building is £250, and on the stock £500. HAMILTON, March 18. Hill's boardinghouse of twenty-five rooms has been destroyed by fire. Half of it was saved. The insurance was £500 on the building and furniture. AUCKLAND, March 18. Last night the Huntly pumping shed at the raihvay station Avas totally destroyed by fire. Requiring benzine for the oil engine the pumper proceeded to open a neAv tin. When he -was making necessary holes some of the fluid spurted up, and coming in contact with the light he held in hiw hand, ignited. Some of the burning oil Avhich fe.l on his hand burned it -so severely that he dropped the light on the tin, anil soon the whole of the benzine was in a blaze. The shed, oil engine and boiler of the donkey engine Arere totally destroyed. The damage is estimated at between £_vJ and £300. DANNEVLRKE, March 18. The high Avind which has prevailed during the last few days caused fires to spread over a great extent of country in southern Hawke's Bay, doing corside-rable damage to th* standing bush. Several mills are in danger of dwtructioa.
