FIRES.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGR UI.. ) NAPIER, March 17. The Shamrock Hotel, Awatoto, was totally destroyed by fire in the early hours of the morning. When the fire was discovered it had obtained a great hold, and there was no hope of saving tho building. The licensee, Mr J. McG.'ono, and family, had a narrow escape. One girl, about twelve years old, was seriously burnt about the Jace, arms, and chest, and was removed to the hospital. Two younger children were aiso burnt, but less seriously. The building, which was owned by the Robjohns estate, was insured iv the Norwich Union Company for £600, and the furniture and stock for £300 in the same office. A special telegram to the 'Telegraph" i from Makaretu udvist_ that large bush I tires are raging at tlie Ashley. Ciintou, Makaretu, Blackburn, and Wakarara settlements. Several settlers liave been burnt out at Blackburn, and on- at Makaretu WAIPAWA. March 17. Bartholomew's Sawmill, at Takapau, was completely destroyed by fire last night during a gale.
