On Friday night the Linwood Wes * leyan Band of Hope opened its winter ueeeion, when a lecturo was given by Mr H. \ R. Wilkinson on "The Wonderland of too ™ North Island." The building was very tastefully decorated with *J! palms, ferns and pot plants. A tea meeting is to be held this evening, when the I Rev. James LyaU will be the chief speaker. An entertainment was* held at Lecston last Friday, for the benefit ef Mr William % % Longstaff, who for over twelve months has' V«~----been seriously ill. The committee, and particularly -f the hon. secretary (Mr Frank Holley) an ,V § to bo congratulated on the result of their h efforts, the proceeds amounting to about -^ £20.
