Clifford, Hadfield, Johneon. The clerk to the City Council wrote asking the Council to validate the appointment of Mr E. C. Preston an an additional temporary health irjK|»ect«r. The Council approved of the appointment. Major Alexander wrote acknowledging, on belief of the Governor, the l'eceip'* of the Council* Greater Cbxistchurch petition, which had been handed oil to the Ministers. The letter wan received. The superintendent of the Firv Brigade wrote reporting an accident to the engine, which had occurred the previous afternoon, in consequence of a number of cyclists racing with t lie engine. The k-tter was referred to the» Fire Prevention Committee. 'Ihe City Council wrote asking for a resolution by the Council, under seaf, agre*in>; to the proposed Greater Christchurch vtiid*, and the number of councillors for each ward. Tho Works Committee, in their report, stated that they could not recommend tha making of the alteration* to the swimming bath ad asked for by the Swimming Club. The Committee recommended that the tender of Mr J. C. Kermode to remove the present fences on the north and eaet frontages of Sydenham Park, and to erect new fences, for the- turn of £14 6s 3d per chain, be accepted. The Finance Committee reported that during the last fortnight the receipts of the Council had amounted to £516 10s 7d, while £1332 6b 7d was recommended for payment. The general account was £4569 15s 4d in debit, and the following accounts were- in credit:—Separate qgcount £982 18s 7d, interest account £1462 14s 4d, and loan account £1797 Os 3d. The Bylaws Committee reposed that w the contractor for coinpleting&ilie numbering of the houses in the borough had not gone on with his work, and as the numbering might be atfected by the annexation of the borough to the city, the work .'jfcjuld be stopped. Tiie Water Supply Committee ieported that the lire brigade plant had been removed to the new Fire Brigade Station. The Technical School Committee recommended that the managers of the Technical School should be offered the use of the old Council Chamber for a continuation school. The reporte were adopted. At a special meeting, the Council resolved to widen Disraeli etreet, Burke street, and Hazeldean road, and to make new streets in continuation of Cadogan and Burlington streets to Huxley street, and in continuation of Longfellow street to Southampton dtreet. The above resolution will be continued at a meeting held on April ,13tb.
