EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board met yesterday. Presentr-Meesrs C. A. C. Hardy, M.H.K. (chairman), D. Buddo, M.H.R., T. W. Adame, H. W. Peryman, C. H. A. T. Opie, J. L. Scott, D. McMillan, and J. Rennic.
Tiie BuildiDgß Committee reported: That the expenditure incurred in disinfecting the city schools, at an average cost of 10e, be paid, Dr. Finch to be asked to give more timely notice in future, bo that school committees could make the necessary arrangements. Owing to recent heavy expenditure on school buildings, the Board could not contribute to'bhe cost of laying down asphalt paths at Fendalton. That the following tenders be accepted:—J. P. Nolan, caretaker's house, Waltham, £325; A. Tweedie, addition to sdhool, Spotawood, £116; G. Petrie, addition to school, Darfield, £60; G. Petrie, new floor and repairs to school, Kowai Pass, £64. The report was adopted. Tho Appointments Committee reported: That me Methven Committee had been informed that Miss Briden. being the only eligible candidate, should be appointed. The Department had written undertak.ng to pay the salaries of Miss Maxwell and Misa Other matters of detail were ako reported on. The report was agreed to. The formal School and Technical Committee's report, which was adopted, recommend«l that the following should be admitted for training: —John B. Brown, Frances Co'.eimin, Constance Da*,ve, Gertrude Hassell, Winifred Opif, Gladys Roger*!, .Maria Wiikineon, and Nellie Watson, on the understanding that they would undertake to remain for a two years' cour.se. In the case of Mips Culkn, who had boon recommended for appointment by the Christchurch East Committee, it was considered that she should enter through tlv. , ordinary pupil-teacher course. Mi*e Vallance was cor.sidere<i to be too at present to benefit by a course of training. The East Chrwrtchurch {School Committee forwarded a resolution ro f»ee secondary education. It was decided to receive the letter.

Wood (byttelton); Mr Wm. Sberrard (Opawa); iir U. B. H:ckman (Bangiora); Miss Gertrude Thwaitee (Southbrook); Mlesea Edith Early, Helen A. Wam*r, and Iris Mills, and Mr J. S. Hilaon {Sydenham); Mr T. A. Atidnsoa (Prebbkfton). The of the following teachers were received and accepted:—Miss E. Verran, miitreee, Halswell; Mies F. A. Webb, mistress, Homebuah; Mies Agnes MoPherson, mistress, Leamington; jaiw M. Dickinson, aasistant mistrees, Lyttelton; MUa K. Lorimer, mietreae, Riveraide; Mr G. F. Allen, maeter, Spofcswood. Miss M. Common was appointed v assistant in the secondary department of the Amberley school. Mies May Horrell was appointed pupil teacher at Adding ton, Miss Lily U Williams at Hainpstead, and Jdr Owen Feldwick at Kamfioi,
It was decided to ask the «*ident« of Aehley Gorge to call for tenders for a three monuie' eervioo witih regard to the txmvey&noe of children to the school. The resignation of Miss Dimant, tie office typewriter and shorthand writer, was accepted. Itte Board went into committee to consider applicatione for the vacancy, and to examine the applicante. It wae reported that Aiise E. F. Hardoastle had been appointed. The Board them rose. Mattel* relating to secondary education are reported elsewhere.
