Mr Lownes, of Yalgoo, who received through the post a parcel of gelignite, which exploded on being opened and blew his left hand and forearm to pieces, has had a portion of the injured' limb amputated. He is reported to be progressing favourably. « WESTRALIAN MINISTER OF LAND. Mr Hopkins, member for Boulder, has been uppointed Minister of Lands. CYCLING RECORDS. SYDNEY, February 17. Robl, the German cyclist, made an Australian record by riding a mile in L*nin 28 2-sth sec, and also a five mile record in 7min 40 l-sth sec.
